Characteristics and impact of theory of planned behavior interventions on smoking behavior: A systematic review of the literature

Theoretical frameworks such as the theory of planned behavior (TPB) can be applied to design and evaluate smoking interventions. The present systematic review aimed to: (i) determine characteristics TPB-based interventions their reported impact on TPB variables, (ii) level methodological quality in included studies, (iii) assess theoretical implementation. Studies were eligible for inclusion if intervention targeted behavior, was explicitly based TPB, or intention measured at least post-intervention. Relevant articles identified through searches databases internet search engines, responses messages sent thematic forums, consultation prominent authors, manual key websites TPB-publications. Seventeen studies met criteria. A majority (65%) student population (i.e., elementary school, high university). Interventions minimally provision health messages. proportion that a significant intention, attitude, subjective norm, PBC ranged between 42% 50%. Regarding quality, unclear risks bias notably found regarding selection participants, data collection methods, withdrawal drop-outs, blinding. implementation, reciprocal link techniques variables remain studies.
